African American Studies previews Black History Month with Dec. 5 art unveiling

STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥擜 public art unveiling and reception at Mississippi State this week will preview a lineup of events scheduled for Black History Month in February.

The Wednesday [Dec. 5] event 鈥淚mitation of Life鈥 will be held from 7-9 p.m. in Colvard Student Union鈥檚 Foster Ballroom M. The event is open to all and formal attire is suggested.

Sponsored by MSU鈥檚 Society of African American Studies, a photographic art exhibit will present reinterpretations of well-known iconic works of art, such Leonardo da Vinci鈥檚 鈥淢ona Lisa鈥 and Thutmose鈥檚 鈥淏ust of Nefertiti.鈥 Artists鈥 interpretations of these masterpieces examine underlying social conventions and normative values.

鈥淚mitation of Life鈥 also will be on display during the month of February with details to be announced.
